My background is that I do the complete layout and many of the ads for
DCA's magazine the Spotter. I also get it ready for press and prepare it to be
put on-line by our webmistress.
When I was in college, Western Michigan University, I decided to publish a
humor magazine. I got permission from the college to do it, and put
together a staff. It was to come out monthly, and then be sold for .25 an
issue.
I took the pictures with a camera, sold advertising to local stores, picked
a printer, and when the deadline came for the writings, no one came up
with anything. So, I wrote the entire magazine, and did so under ten or twelve
different names each issue. I wrote as a man, a woman, a student, a police
officer, and a few things I can't mention. I took the materials to the
printer, got it printed, took it on campus and sat at a table in the commons
area and sold the issues. It was called Tart.
I did that for five issues and then gave it up.
It was interferring with my study/drinking time,
I found a couple of the issues the other day, and have to admit, I
enjoyed reading them. But, then, I have always found my own writings to be my
favorite. Other than John D. McDonald, Andrew Vachss, and Dean Koontz I like me
best.
I never got any complaints from the readers, but then again, I never let
anyone know who I was or how to reach me.
Not that there was anything wrong with that.
