I had a dog that did this years ago... we tried everything.. ointments, cones,
even acupuncture and acupressure... nothing really works so that he quit doing
it completely..Some causes can be worms, fleas, allergies or an injury
(fracture) to the tail or simply behavioral issues. Apparently this can also
be the result of a nerve conduction problem as well... the tail feels weird
because it tingles.. just like your foot tingles when it has fallen asleep.. -
and of course, once there is a break in the skin it is irritated, which makes
them worry it even more.. a catch 22 situation..I haven't ever seen a tail
chewer problem resolves short of amputation, but i am sure there have been many
instances..good luck!Sue
