I've known Tom and Shirley for over 20 years, I used to work child abuse
cases with Shirley years ago when she was a social worker and I was a deputy
probation office with Santa Clara county. When I first meet Tom, an extremely
friendly intelligent college professor, we talked for about two minutes and I
came away asking myself .."What the hell did that guy say"...for the next 20
years or so Tom ,Shirley and I had a standing joke that I Never understood what
ever Tom was trying to tell me. I'll tell you a secret, but you can tell anyone
you want...when Tom spoke EVERY ONE listened...for an intellectual ( and I
don't know many) Tom is ( not was) a down to earth everyday guy. and I'll get
personal...If it were not for Tom I would not be a public school teacher today,
I ran into some trouble at San Jose State while I was trying to get my teaching
credential...being too embarrassed to talk about it my wife went running to Tom
the college professor...Tom contacted me and told
me exactly what to do to fix my very large problem......it worked...I love Tom
O'Brien...heaven just got a lot smarter..Ed

O'Brien died suddenly and unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon. Tom had
cardiac arrest while out bike riding by himself with no cell phone and
no I.D. It was a few hours before Shirley knew about it and it was a
complete shock to her..... and heartbreaking news to all of us who know
and love both of them.
At the moment there is still no date and time for services ..........
