Good luck with your papillon, I have been after the cavalier breed, looking
though. Had a chance to handle some in classes and they are wonderful,
found a great mentor int he breed!!!

Great post and you have addressed many of the reasons I am getting out of
showing GSD's.
My reasons are two-fold. The major issue is the economy and my current
financial situation. In the past, I could afford showing every weekend,
traveling and even handlers. I am now on a fixed income that barely covers
my living expenses, let alone showing dogs. Not to mention, my age and
injuries prevent me from doing what I need to do to properly train and show
a GSD.
There is also the political aspect. I have become discouraged with the PC
and the in-fighting and the favoritism. If I had big bucks to spend, I
would probably spend it on my girl, Brandy. She is the best thing ever to
grace my back yard. I would get her the best handler, the best person to
condition her and let her go out and shine. That ain't gonna happen and it
is sad that everything I have tried to accomplish in this breed and all the
money I put out before now, is a total waste.
I suppose a lot if it is also due to the lack of acceptence. After showing
GSD's for over 10 years, working on a breeding program that would provide
HEALTHY, show worthy dogs, I have gone nowhere. I have reached out to GSD
people and tried, to no avail. So, yes, I am done.
Just a note, I added a new addition to my pack. A Papillon puppy. Within 3
days, even before he was old enough to show, the local club reached out to
me and included me in show plans. Within a week, I was on the National show
List and all I did was get a puppy. My $$ will go to my Papillon right now
because I feel included and SUPPORTED!!!!!!
