Switzerland extends animal rights to goldfish

Switzerland has adopted legislation protecting animals that has provisions 
that ban catch-and-release fishing and require that goldfish must be euthanized 
before they are flushed down a toilet. 

The legislation covers all domestic animals, including farm and laboratory 
animals, as well as w ild animals that "reside" in circuses or zoos. In 
particular, the law says domestic animals, including pets, and circus or zoo 
animals 
must be housed or kept with at least one companion of their own species.
