[ SHOWGSD-L ] Surgery UPDATE

Hi listers.....I just wanted to let everyone know that i do believe in
miracles...: ) Kevin went into surgery for 4 1/2 hours the surgeons said
there
were NO complications. NO blood transfusions.... we were told before he
went into surgery that this was to prevent him from getting worse and becoming
totally paralyzed and that there is no quarantee that the surgery would
work.....there are lots of complications listed including him not ever waking
up or
becoming totally paralyzed. they said not to get our hopes up on him having
the use of his left side but we would not know until after the surgery. one
of
the other risks were of the bone graphs not holding....(we are not out of
that danger yet) but. they removed completly disc and vertebra and
repaired
2 others it was hard to get on the c-6 c7 kind of things but we got the
idea...LOL plus they added a plate in there to hold all together. he is to
wear a very uncomfortable neck brace that he is not thrilled with wearing...but
is doing so...LOL
once I was able to see him about 2 hours after surgery we noticed the
left hand was not so claw like....which was a good sign and when he reached
for
me with that left hand i noticed it was a firmer grip when he took hold of my
hand..: ) then later that evening he said look....i looked to where he
was pointing and it was his left foot....he was wiggling his toes a bit and
actually started to lift the leg...: 0
we still have a long way to go....He was fitted for a brace which we pick up
next week...this will assist him on keeping his toes lifted so he dont have to
concentrate so hard on moving them upward to walk...: ) He is scheduled
for physical therapy to get things started on getting him back to his normal
life..: ) but so far the surgery looks to be successful and very hopeful
on
him having a full recovery we will know for sure as time goes by in his
healing progress but right now we are very very hopeful and for a change
have
hope. : )
