Anyone's bitch's have a harder time delivering smaller litters? This is a first time mother. Mattie's mom had only 2 puppies and because they had all that room to grow while in utero, they were about the size of 2-3 week old puppies when delivered via c-section. As far as having pit on hand, I won't whelp a litter without it. You can NEVER use it before a puppy is delivered and you should NEVER use it while a puppy is IN the birth canal, and you should use it sparingly, but even if you don't need it while whelping, 3/4 to 1 cc post delivery will clean out any bits and pieces of placenta and will make the bitch's mild drop very quickly (they give it to cows for milk production.) Besides, I have a real problem w/ a vet who say you "shouldn't" need something. By the time you know you need it, it's too late and what are you supposed to do, leave a bitch who is in labor? Bring her to the vet's office while in labor? Sheesh! Better to have it and throw it away than not have it and need it. I won't whelp a litter without goats milk and amoxi drops too. (And bottles and french feeding tubes...just in case!) I always have nutri drops and bene bac on hand too. We should start a list of "must haves"...
