It only happens once a year - a dog show 1/2 hour from my house, in the 
beautiful & scenic Lake Perris State Recreation Area, right on the shore of the 
lake.
 
This weekend Harley garnered his 93rd & 94th Best of Breed awards.  There were 
no other GSD's entered, but, he performed beautifully for his favorite 
trainer/handler, and #1 fan, Michelle Cassidy, and placed third in the Herding 
Group on Saturday, under breed and group judge, Alice Inman, and was pulled out 
in the Group, but unplaced on Sunday, under breed and group judge Janice L. 
McClary. My appreciation to both judges for recognizing his quality and 
temperament. Which brings me to my second, bigger, brag - on Saturday, while 
doing the down and back under Mrs. Inman, Michelle slipped at the turn around.  
Harley stopped, looked at her with total concern, and waited to see what she 
next expected of him!  Michelle, who has always bragged about and admired his 
temperament, was again impressed with his total soundness and commented to the 
judge and ring steward (who also was most impressed that a GSD was SO sound) 
about how nice it is to handle such a sound dog.  I was so proud of my guy!  
Dog show wins are great, but, living with a healthy, sound GSD is worth it's 
weight in gold!  I will never understand why anyone would not only settle for 
less,but intentionally promote breeding for less.  It sure is nice to see a GSD 
stand for the loose-lead temperament test without being baited or doubled. He 
actually SEES the judge approach and touch him while standing his ground!!  
Novel concept for some, eh?
