I am amused by the people who come by after telling me about their German
shepherd that weighed 150 pounds. Then they get a load of Kierk at about 85
pounds, and tell me how much bigger he is than the dog they had.
It is interesting what people think about size or weight.

I just got a call from a woman who was trying to find the person locally
(here in Northeastern Arizona) who feeds his GSDs raw food and consequently
has 18 year old GSDs that do back flips. That must be some raw food. Mine
don't do back flips now and they're not even close to 18 years old. I
told her it sounded like a BS story and that there were lots of folks with
stories out there. I think I just made her mad. I don't know what I'm
talking about and this person that fed his dogs raw was an "EXPERT". I sure
wish
I was an expert. And apparently I am not to be trusted but this other
person has no reason to lie. After all, why would they? She's hoping to get
a puppy from him. I wished her good luck.

Ed says to put our kibble in a bowl, fill it with water and wait an hour

I remember hearing about putting a nail in coke and watching what happens
in a day. I guess that means people should not drink coke or eat nails.
The other problem I have with the experiment is how many dogs after an
hour have no digestion or passage of food from the stomach, (glass bowl)?
While I appreciate that Ed thinks feeding raw is the answer to all our
problems, I agree it has some merit, but I also applaud the work done by the
industry to supply safe and proper food for the industry.
I also believe our dogs live longer than they did in the wild, but then
again, my dogs never lived in the wild.
Nor did I.

How much stomach acid should you put in the bowl?

In 2012 this Veterinary college did a study on GDV ( Bloat) and published
it in the " Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association " . The
study pointed to kibble as a significant factor with the increased risk of
GDV; kibble increases fermentation of food in the stomach causing the risk
of gas build up and bloat. The thing that made me remember this study is a
private conversation with a great GSD breeder this morning about parasites
in wild game meat, and wolves getting bloat ( do they?)...... Wish I would
have remembered this when I did my video on the raw diet! I'll be sure to
put it in my article on this subject in an upcoming breed magazine ... Try
this experiment. Get a large glass or metal bowl, put two cups of your
favorite kibble, fill the bowl with water... Wait an hour and see what
happens...... Now do the same thing but this time replace the kibble and use
three
pieces of raw chicken.....I have another experiment but most would not be
able to handle it! Ed
