[ SHOWGSD-L ] Sheepherding with Balls!

I hoped that subject makes you read this post.
I have found a new sport that uses those big exercise balls to replace sheep.
Many of you would love to herd with your dogs but are not close to a place in
which to herd or have no time to accomodate this endeavor. There is now an
option. It is called Treibball (German for Drive Ball) The sport combines
agility and herding, for the dog. Obviously, a ball won't move like a sheep
when the dog presses forward. So, the "touch" from agility causes the dog to
move the ball and then kicks in the herding instinct to keep the ball moving.
It is a great way for urban dogs and high drive dogs to expend energy, use
their brains and be able to do this in your back yard. There is a competitive
aspect to it and has specific rules, but it is not sanctioned as yet.
I am just now learning this sport and will use a couple of my herding dogs to
test it. Something to think about for trainers or for your pet puppy buyers to
stimulate the brain.
