What you see is not always what you get.
Genotype is the genes and what will be produced, and phenotype is what you
see. The key to breeding is to know what degree they will control.
It is like paper covers rock, rock breaks scissors,and scissors cuts paper.
Sable is dominant, so if there is a genotype, (sable gene) the dog will
appear to be a sable, (phenotype). But, that dog may carry another gene,
(genotype) covered over by the sable gene. When bred, the dog may pass on the
sable
or the other gene, thereby producing either a sable or another color. Black
is the most recessive of the genes, (genotype). So, if a black carries any
other gene, it will not appear as a black, (phenotype). On the other hand,
would you rather be a star?
Now, in keeping with the maximum to never accept my posts as accurate, do
what you will with the above. In breeding I just ask Tedi and never try to
figure this out, unless I am very bored and there are no re-runs of Everyone
Loves Raymond.
