We have Shelties here in addition to the Shepherds, big dog attitude in a
little package, lots of herding instinct, and they will do anything for you.
Very intelligent, and great with kids etc. They are actually remarkably
similar to Shepherds in temperament. They can be loud, but they require
less grooming than you'd expect...

Corgi's, Schipperke, Shiba Inu and Min Am Eskimo's come to mind. But loving
dogs is loving dogs :-) I have always had a small breed along with the
shepherds and have loved them to bits.
