I suggested something similar a while back, mini-nationals on Futurity
weekends w/ specialty shows, 3 day affairs, outside on grass. Lift all of the
Futurity/Maturity rules...want to show in 4 or 5? Be my guest.
Then select a GV/GVX at a point in the year, base it on dogs
defeated...whatever....like the racehorse people select horse of the year.
Truth is, I have finished dogs for less that it would cost to send a
youngster away for training, show them a few weekends and prep for a Futurity,
which really is a match show (no points).
And OK, maybe someone will spend to ship a special, but a younger dog?

National is a real killer for most.
In view of these astonomical costs it is time to start considering having
both an easter and western National.
From the viewpoint of practicallity, economics and having a good
representation of the breed we could have both and Eastern and Western
Grand
Victor and Grand Victrix. No Run-offs and a dog may only be entered in one
of these, not both.
Maybe this could make it fun, instead of a financial, back breaking,
burden.
