I finally got the Review yesterday. Now to read last July and National
minutes. I sure wish we could go back to how Ginny Altman did the minutes ,all
the
years she was recording secy. She did a lot of the minutes with her computer
at the actual meeting,but.also the recorder was going all the time, So when
she got home,3/4 of the minutes were done. She'd go through the tape
recording to double check everything on her computer write-up,call me ( we
live
close to each other & I was also on the Board at that time) to double check,if
she had questions,. She would then email to the President,and,if there were
additions or corrections,make the changes,then get them out to all Board for
their corrections,and approval and back to her,within the 30 day limitation.
She
did the Board O Gram at the same time( easy to do when doing the minutes)
and sent out to the members. Ginny rarely made mistakes ,since she actually
wrote up the minutes AT the meeting,so when she sent it to the Board
members,she would also send to the Review , with the proviso, if she got any
corrections and had the Board's Approval of the minutes,she send any
corrections to
the Review. This gave the Review editor the lead time for space allotment. If
the Editor had to add or change something ,in her copy of the minutes ,no big
deal. So the membership got the approved minutes, in a much shorter time.
When I was President, I was fortunate to have Dorothy Linn as my recording
Secy. We didn't have computers in 1985-89 ,so Dorothy would take the minutes
in
her own special shorthand- never made a mistake--and transcribed them on the
plane on her trip home,and had them to me ,by mail within a week. I was so
lucky to have such an dedicated person,but you all know her. Whatever she
does,it's done correctly and efficiently,and she helped make my Presidency a
real
joy. We are lucky to have a Kathaleen Strong to do our Board minutes,but,she
is sometimes restricted by different rules
