Subject: Raleef (was BOG)
Peggy posts...

I believe that it has come out that the RALEEF money was used to pay Paul's
expenses to attend the NAIA convention. No one on the RALEEF committee
knew where the money came from...altho a couple of us have learned this
today..............a little late, no? I know I was told (by Paul) that he
thought he could get the Board to pay for two people to
attend............after several of us said we did not want to go with him.
Peggy

 Paul adds...

Actually...when I asked Peggy if she could go she expressed interest but
didn't know how she would pay her dog sitter. Stormy wanted to go but was on
call that week for a jury trial where she was testyfying as an expert
witness, Pat Galambos had work conflicts, LeAnne Wessesl had health issuess,
Kay Springer had an old bitch that required constant care, and Laurie Pruett
could go.

Originally I had requested the BOD tap into the Purina Educational monies
and send a delegation of 4 or 5. That was not to be and the number was cut
to two. I was going to send 2 and pay my own way but as it turned out...only
Laurie and I were avaiable and we went representing RALEEF and the PClub. We
were asked to use RALEEF funds that were approximately $3000. Our expenses
were some $1800 for airfare, lodging, and the seminar registration of $250.
It was an excellent seminar and I believe both Laurie and I benefitted
greatly but I would certainly let Laurie speak for herself.

Peggy alluded that no one wanted to go with me and to some extent that was
true. Repercussion from my vote in the Hunte matter still caused animosity
and ill will and has to this day. I am continually working to ease that
tension but with little success. There is no doubt the Hunte matter was
responsible for negative reaction to proposals I made in March and April. I
have the emails where I accepted the responsibility but tried to move
forward. Below are 2 I sent about what RALEEF could do in 2007. I had hoped
after my explanation and apology to the committee we could try and move
forward. As you can see from the following emails that was not to be...Email
2 dated 03-06-07 that was a follow up to email 1 I sent a few days earlier
on the 28th. It read:

Joan asked when and where the NAIA conference would be held. Vancouver WA
April 20, 21, 22...right across from the Portland airport but it's the same
weekend you're judging the futurity. As it stands now, the PClub will pay
the $250 registration (this went out to all RALEEF members twice so there
was no question where the money was coming from...just how many would be
going), airfare to Portland, and room at the conference. I really think it
would very educational if it might be possible for others to go. Jenn and I
are talking about it to see if we can make it work in our personal budget. I
have no problem paying my own way for this opportunity. The info is on the
NAIA website.

You all should bookmark that site as well as the NAIA Trust site

I was gone all day and didn't get to respond to some of the posts. I think
Dee makes some very valid points but I also believe we can turn it around.
After the Hunte debacle is set straight...we should have another conference
call to discuss our plans for 07.

We are primarily an education group...but we can also lobby to see the right
things done by the fancy. That said, here are a few things I would like to
discuss and see happen.

1. Peggy's sub-committee get going and work thru the PClub web site when
it's complete.
2. As to the web site...have the library of articles, etc. available to
committee members in a password protected area for us alone.
3. Select a Regional Club liaison that can work with individual RALEEF
members to assist Regional Clubs in education, legislation, and offer
programs (where we go to the clubs when possible) that will explain why we
need their help.
4. RALEEF members alert locals in their areas to the threats that exist or
good things they need to support and when possible, speak at the meetings on
behalf of our positions.
5. Establish a PR branch of RALEEF that can approach members of the media to
educate them about Responsible Pet Ownership and the ARO's true aims.
6. Set up a Scholastic arm of the committee that would look into compiling a
syllabus for Responsible Pet Ownership 101 that could be taught to students
K thru 12.

That's few things we could discuss and work to implement.

As to the name...RALEEF. Originally it was going to be RALEE but some Board
members felt it would be confused with Rally Obedience. I wanted a positive
acronym and RALEE alludes to us rallying to the defense of the fancy. We
were in Beaumont at the meeting and I was under the gun so up came RALEEF
that alludes to relief from the ARO juggernaut. The F stands for
federation...not foundation. I still would prefer RALEE but that's become a
moot point. Changing the name of the committee could be a pretty expensive
undertaking considering the number and expense of our existing banners and
buttons.

Let's discuss these suggestions and get a feel if you all might be
interested in pursuing them. I would welcome additional comments and also
the discussion of a "volunteer committee" trying to accomplish things that
will be labor intensive...to say the least.

Paul

This next one was sent privately so I have taken the name out of the email
address and message...It expresses obvious concern for a lack of response to
the emails of the 28th of Feb. and the follow up email of March 7th...this
short (but highly explanatory email speaks volumes) It read:
XXXXXX...
I only received 1 reply to the post I sent yesterday about RALEEF in 07. Is
there a boycott going on here?

The one person who did reply did so in favorable terms and It was my hope
the committee to undertake these tasks in 07.

I have saved several other request for working together that include AB
1634 and more. They...for the most part...went unheeded as did the above.
Many of the committee members could not get beyond my vote on Andrew Hunte
and while I cannot blame them...there are times the work we could accomplish
becomes the "greater good". An email dated 5-31-07 discussed some
resignations that I understood. LeAnne's we due to health problems but the
rest of them were do to my Hunte vote. 4 months had done little to alleave
their animosities and I respected that...it did no good for RALEEF the
committee. Here is the 5-31 email...I don't disagree and will do so
soon...I was hoping some time would ease the strain. LeAnne's departure is
due to health problems. I know how upset Dee was with my Hunte vote as was
Judy Bryan in Texas and others including Laura. I maintain it was FOR the
fancy and the sport and no other reason. You pointed it out from the NAIA
site...did anyone ever respond?

There is more to add perhaps at a later time re legislation that even
includes AB 1634. Since I was not at the last Board meeting and haven't seen
those meeting minutes, I cannot tell you the balance of the RALEEF accout. I
will find out later and post it as an open jesture with noting to hide.

As to the $10,000 private donation made to NAIA...it was solicited by me but
sent "Directly" to Patti Strand of NAIA. It is also common knowledge from
the April minutes that Bill Pfeiffer suggested I return at the July meeting
with a request for $25K for RALEEF. Since then I came up with a dual request
for a total of $10K...$5 to NAIA (approved) and $5 to RALEEF for Regional
hot spots like San Antonio and Henderson, NC. That part of the request was
voted down. I will make application to the Amerman Foundation at their Sept
meeting for funds but if approved, they must be "matching funds". If RALEEF
gets $5K in donations the Amermans would match those funds and therefore
would be available to "educate" regions that are under attack. Such monies
could be very important in assisting local grass roots groups and RALEEF
Regionsl reps in combatiing the ARO onslaught.

Yes...there are some bug Stains on the RALEEF windsheild but as I recover
from my pneumonia and gain strength...I am determined to move forward.
It's been very difficult in the last 2 months for me to do much of
anything...but I'm getting better. I have good days and bad days but I am
willing and able to give RALEEF the better portiion of my good days. I would
ask that you join me in recovering from what has been a disasterous 6
monthhs. Hunte is an erased word from my vocabulary and my aforementioned
apology is still there for those who will accept it and join me in new
quests to defeat the ARO's.
