That's super advice Kay.
I would also suggest the owner carry a trial sized can of hairspray if she
walks her GSD in a similar area. I had a good girlfriend whose Springer
was attacked (while on leash) by another dog. A .99 cent can of hair spray
would have helped....a lot!

rottie. I would also encourage the owners to attend a good obedience class
where the dog can be around lots of dogs in a controlled situation. I
would just make sure the instructor is one that truly understands dog
behavior, has the background on this dog and is not biased towards GSDs.

would recommend that when the owners are more relaxed about walking their
dog, that they take a something with them to distract their dog when their
dog starts to focus in on another dog. This can be food or a special toy
that the dog likes. When I have a dog that is focusing on something they
should not, ie another dog I use the command "think" followed by a correction
to look at me. Now, whenever I say the word "think" to one of my dogs, they
know to focus on me and not get into trouble. Of course, my dogs are
always on leash as I am not a big fan of dog parks or off leash walking.
