Our local kennel club used to run an ad in the local paper a number of years
ago in the "dogs for sale" column. The wording was per AKC, you couldn't
word it yourself. I don't know if AKC is as strict as they were then. It ran
in every issue, and had a member's phone number for information on local
breeders.

At lunch today I was skimming through a local paper and came across the pets
section. Mixed in with all the individual seller's ads, was big color ad
for Petland. "6 Locations in the Columbus area. Choose from 400+ We have
the puppy for you. No money down required."
Sickening, yes.
Here are my questions:
If an individual or even a dog club (Regional or GSDCA) wants to put an AD
in that pet section that says something along the lines of "If you want a
quality, healty puppy buy from a reputable breeder - NOT a Pet Store." Or
even just "Do not support Pet Stores" Or whatever...
Would there be any legal consequences from that as long as you do not
specifically name Petland?
And would the newspaper even allow an ad like that to be placed in that
section near the Petland Ad??
I think our Parent Club, Regional Clubs and us as individuals should start
proactively campaigning against Petland and other pet stores. We have
enough people, passsion and resources just in our breed club that we could
put a dent in the entire operation of puppy brokering. Ideas????
