Ginger Cleary,Rome, GA ww.rihadin.com <http://www.rihadin.com> Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it. ~Thomas Paine Member GSDCA Member Sawnee Mtn Kennel Club GA Director Responsible Dog Owners of the Eastern States. -----Original Message----- Everyone knows AB 1634 is up for vote on the Assembly floor. Rumor has it the bill will not be brought up until some of the leadership meetings on the budget is over, but the bill must be voted out of the Assembly by June 8th, deadline, see attached calendar. You can expect Mr. Levine to drop the 4 month prohibition soon. He is negotiating with Canine Companions, CAHP, and other groups represent breeders. While all of that plays into his hands, it will not dampen our efforts to defeat this bill. I spent last weekend at a dog parade in Elk Grove, south of Sacramento, then over to the dog shows at Vallejo for a speech and discussions with exhibitors. Sunday Cyndi and I spent with the Nat'l Open Field Coursing Association. I did an interview with Village news, the Orange County Register and writer who does the Pet Column for the SF Chronicle. We are working on getting on talk radio etc. PetPAC is working with volunteers to plaster the Mission Circuit Dog Shows this Memorial Weekend. Kelley Moran and I will be down there Thurs afternoon to scout out things, then on site on Sat & Sun to get out the message. Volunteers will circulate to exhibitors drop off materials, gain support. We will visit every vendor to do the same. The general public will be given handouts, and I will be available to address anyone interested in what is happening. PetPAC is working on last minute changes and materials for the new national website. www.petpac.net We hope, but not sure, the website will be up this Friday. The website will be used to draw millions of Californians to sign up to oppose AB 1634. Today, I met with US Senator Barbara Boxer's staff to go over COPS support of her child safety bill. During our meeting, I was able to bring up and explain our position against AB 1634. There is a lot of interest which I will follow up on. Senator Boxer can be very valuable to us in future congressional support. it is the start to bring back this issue to our side, away from ARs. I have had discussions with Susan Hamil, Bloodhound breeder, whose husband John is a past president of Calif Veterinarians Ass'n. I asked Dr. Hamil to gather a small group of eminent veterinarians to be a steering committee to lead the charge with Vets in California. Susan said he (John) was furious with the CVMA, which is sounding more like a closed society. There is a Board of Governor's meeting in June in Orange County that PetPAC and vets in opposition plan to attend and publicize. PetPAC website will post names and addresses of vets opposing AB 1634, like an approved list. I have been advising everyone in Assembly members to talk with, how to approach them and where to approach them. We feel it would be effective to organize groups in each Assembly and Senate District to contact their Assemby Member and State Senator and let them know you and others will be at his or her district office on Friday, June 22nd. Everyone is doing a terrific job in letter writing, telephone and personal meetings with legislators. Keep it up. Don't get discouraged. We need to be in this war for the long haul. We need to motivate exhibitors, especially in Southern California to understand killing this bill is more paramont to winning that blue ribbon. Get Involved! PetPAC is working on many fronts. We have limited financial resourses right now, so we have to be very judicious in selecting where we spend your money. Barr Wyatt is developing a campaign strategy which I hope to publish tomorrow. Because of frustrations, some are working on individual programs that may or may not be effective. PetPAC Strategy is based upon a proven strategy that has worked here as well as across the US. Everyone who attended thought the PetPAC rally was second to none. That is the kind of programs that work. Remember, we need to reach out to every dog and cat lover in the state. We need to continuously raise funds to get our message out. No one in PetPAC so far has taken a paycheck. We are all working-that includes the professionals we are bringing on--pro bono. That will have to change when enough funds come in. So, please be patient. It is difficult to answer every email when we are received 800-900 a day. My telephone never stops ringing. Those of you who have not been able to get through can attest to that. No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
