[ SHOWGSD-L ] Peggy Lee- a long time friend and lover of the breed

I first met Peggy in about 1958 when a group of us were forming the GSDC of
Southern New Jersey. I remember a man named George Mahoney was the first
Pres. but I only remember Peggy as always being the Secretary or a board
member.She was pretty in an understated way and I remember she worked for an
electric or power company. She never drew attention to herself- she was
always
giving.
Later I remember when she invited both Sam and I to judge at Boardwalk
inAtlantic City at different times. Even then, though you knew she was the
power
she stayed, at her own call in the background.
Over the last 30 years we stayed in touch sporadically, but always knew each
other as friends.
When she heard Same was not well she e mailed me occasionally to give her
best to him.
WE talked of her Cocoa Beach home etc.
After I did this January the GSDC of Orlando show she e mailed and said she
heard I did well and commented on her dog who was in the show who was shown by
Lennie Brown. She never mentioned her health.
Sam and I feel a great loss of this old friend. You, of the next
generation of exhibitors and handlers, should feel deeply honored with
whatever
contact you had with her. Her life for at least 45 years or more was to love
and
promote the German Shepherd breed. She was a special person- private to the
end - and just in general a lovely lady.
