[ SHOWGSD-L ] Orijen for senior dogs

My sister is a vet and fed Orijen to her old dog until he passed away  
(unrelated brain tumor).  She monitored his kidney functions and well as  
everything 
else and the Orijen IMPROVED all of his numbers.  Also, one of  her current 
OHs was having major issues (elevated liver & kidney issues)  until she put 
them on Orijen.  It may be high in protein, but the dogs seem  to handle it 
very 
well.  Get numbers on the dog, try the food and then  retest.  You may be 
surprised.

If you get the fish  and potato version, it's very fishy smelling.  The meat 
based ones  aren't.  The only caution with Orijen for an older dog is that 
even  their senior formula is 42% protein which is too high for any dog that  
might be beginning to have aging kidneys as it puts too much strain on the  
kidneys trying to process that amount of  protein.
