Actually, that is what happens in a "spit" barn at a race track. You take
the top three finishers and any other horse the stewards feel should be tested
(say a favorite that didn't finish well), and you bathe them and begin to
cool them off in the designated barn. Track employees are able to watch
trough glass. After the horse drinks a bit, you and the horse go into a stall
w/
a track employee and when the horse pees, it is collected in a jar at the end
of a long pole. (We actually would whistle, for some reason, maybe because
the sound blocks out much of the noise and confusion, horses pee easier. I
couldn't make this up <G>.)

The sample is split, the trainer (or assistant) and the track employee sigh
the strip of tape that seals the container. Blood is also drawn, split,
sealed and initialed. One vial of blood and one container of urine is then
sent
out to be tested. The second set of samples are kept in case any parties
wish to challenge the results of the test.

Now, as to why it is called a spit barn...probably at some point saliva was
tested.

It wouldn't offend me if dogs were tested. Knowing Teddy, he was probably
sick of seeing known spookey-dooks stand like a stone...errrrr...stoned <G>.
