Addition to my email below: I forgot you also get the Petco buy 10 get one free bag program as you use the Petco frequent buyer card they give you. All in all a good program for you and for the parent club...and for the dogs!. Since Scott had a Grand Victrix ProPlan must not be too bad. Seriously, I also have been feeding ProPlan for years as do a number of other people I know. If you buy it when Petco has it on sale at their monthly or so 4.00 off a bag sale...and then you buy 200 pounds at a time and ask for the "Petco breeders' discount, you get another 20% off!!! Hopefully you are already a member of ProPlan Breeders' club as you can then send in a number of weight circles to ProPlan and get back $25 debit cards to great restaurants like Applebee's, Chili's, Romano's, Macaroni Grill and a couple more. I figured it out one time and that brings my cost to below $20 a bag...can't remember the exact amount. But one of the better things is that the German Shepherd Dog Club of America is also part of the ProPlan Breeders' club plan and they get credit for the weight circles we breeders send in at the same time if we mentioned that when we joined ourselves. I believe in 2005 ProPlan sent the GSDCA a check for $20,000 from this plan. I think the check was around $10,000 in 2004 so more of us are now participating. If we could get a few hundred more breeders doing it the check could get even larger. The check I believe ProPlan states is to be used for health and educational purposes or something like that. Something to think about. I have fed Pro Plan for many years with great success. Quality control is so important and many commercial dog foods pay "toll blenders/manufactures to make there food. I suggest staying away from those and stick to the companies that manufacture there own foods in there own facilities and have a good quality control program. Being a Chemist and Engineer I can tell you dog food is not hard to make and when you look at cost there is a reason name brands are more expensive besides marketing cost. It is a function of raw material cost and quality control. I do not believe you can produce a quality 40 lb bag of food and sell it for $12.00 and to expect it to be a good quality food. McDonalds versus OutBack Steakhouse....prices are different but sois the quality of food. My 2 Cents Worth.
