I am in the process of registering a non-profit corporation for the awarding
of a fund for the Junior Handler who wins at the National. I have not asked
for donations yet, as I need to structure how it is going to be done.
I will do all the legal work and have asked Frank Fasano and Nancy McDonald
to serve on the board. I have discussed it with them both, and Frank has
said there would be no problem with the GSDCA.
I would appreciate any idea anyone has as to how to award this. I know
there will be those who win it, that might not want to go to college. I
also want 100% of the donations to go the Junior. I will pay all costs to
set this up. So, any thoughts you have, let me know.
My commitment is to have at least $5,000 for the Junior Handler when he/she
reaches 18. I have commitments so far of $2,000.00 but will not ask for
donations until the corporation is established. Then I will request money
big time.
I am thinking at this point the donations should be anonymous, but again, I
am open to suggestions. I want it to be perpetual, and encourage anyone who
can to compete for the award. I want it in place and awarded for the first
time this year.
I was amazed last year to hear that the club gave the winner $100.00. So,
instead of asking the club to support the Juniors more that it does with the
program, this will be a personal private enterprise.
