I am the best judge I know and no one gets mad at me for my choices. Possibly that is because I judge every show I go to from the side of the ring without going into the middle. It is great proceedure; you just stand there, or better yet, set there and judge the dogs and never point at them or make a placement, other than in your own mind. The nationals were great for my judging technique. I seldom share my results because that is when people get touchy, and I never want to distract from the official results going on 'in' the ring. You judges are a rare breed indeed. You actually go into the ring and become a target. Me, I make it easy on myself. I get to see all the same dogs, make my evaluation, and leave with no risk!! Overall...... I thought this years entry showed some good improvement overall from a few years ago. Fronts were pretty good and rears had greatly improved. There were far fewer locked hocks and dragging toes. Some, but not so many. There was a definate difference between the dogs and the bitches and temperament might be a bit better now that some years back also. Although lift is still with us, I think we might be understanding it a bit more and it did not seem as extreme as I've seen a few years ago. The thing that I think needs some work was the pace of the dogs. I personally like a dog that is easy moving, with a general profile of floating around the ring without up and down motion, while covering ground without effort. Many of the dogs this year were far too frantic for me. They appeared to be going fast, but the easy movers were right there with them - same ground coverage, less frantic.I'd also like to see better shoulder opening and less movement from the elbow, you know, where the extension in front does not find the upper arm and lower arm straight. We still have a way to go there. I really liked: Elmo - Did not matter who he moved with, he took far fewer steps and had to move to the outside to not run over them. Army - I had not seen him before, but I was really impressed. Balance, easy movement and a real man! Max - One of our co-owners bred to him and got some lovely pups, but I had not seen him. Lori Bello (sp) has a good one there. Again a masculine easy mover. Alvin - Just WOW! The old man is a showman as well as a worthy specimine. And there were others of that same stature that I cannot remember their names. I was really impressed. Bitches: I've always loved Cookie. Did I tell anyone we have her sister who is just as good but was lazy that day? Want to see my pictures???? Lots of lovely bitches. I was greatly impressed with the quality, and again, I loved my judging! No you're not getting me into the center of the ring. I like to have friends!
