Hello Kate, I just went through the same thing with one of my girls a few
months ago. The first one was born dead and I could not revive it so I
rushed her to the vet for an emergency c-section. We found one mummified
pup, four pups that appeared to have died within the hour and managed to
save 3 others. This was this bitch's second litter and the second time we
have gone through this. The first litter we lost three out of four with
natural births. My vet took the mummified pup from this litter and sent it
to the University of Arizona in Tucson but they found nothing. The vets up
here don't seem to have a clue. One of them suggested that if we breed her
again we just schedule a c-section for her 59th day, another suggested that
this is just a fluke and may never happen again. I don't know what to try
next. Spaying her might be the next logical step if we can't find some way
to stop this. I really would hate to do this as at least one of the pups
that have been saved has some serious "Star" potential. We have no ideas
what to try next and would appreciate any help or ideas from the list also.
