I can appreciate the need to limit losses, but the Nationals can be
profitable in places other than St. Louis. It is just a matter of keeping
within
the budgets set for the committees.
I remember Frank telling me when he took over as President that the
committees at the National consistantly went ahead and spent over what the
projected, and he was going to limit that.
The Budget and Finance Committee sets a limit to spending that projects a
profit.
We know we lost money sponsoring the German shows, and with the law suit
due to "our own club" the WDA bringing suit for us not paying commitments
they made without approval. But, that is the past.
For years the GSDCA made money at the National. Our National was the
biggest source of funding as was our Futurity/Maturity. I think the
Futurity/Maturity changes will increase the funds to the club.
The board needs to consider the best to do for the membership, as well as
the finances.
I am not a board member, nor do I ever want to be one again. I know they
all do the best they can, but the road to hell is paved with good
intentions. Or, that is what Ed Hill told me this weekend.
What a great weekend. We didn't get beat in the ring in any of the three
shows. I got to see Ellie, Cappy, Gloria, Kenny, Dave, Jamie, Art, Bill,
Nancy, Karen, Ed, and so many others we miss seeing most of the year.
It is so strange not to see Janet, Darlene, Liz, and so many others that
would normally be there. Maybe that is what makes it so much more poignant
to see our friends who remain with us.
Let's always remember what is most important, those we can have as
friends, even if we don't see them every day. And, balance that with our
opinions,
discussions and disagreements. Those differences will fade away,
considering the importance of our relationships.
