Missouri certainly has Coyotes. When I had the kennel in Buckner in the 1970s, we could hear the coyotes run at night and would occasionally catch a glimpse of one going across a field and every now and then dead one on the road. When I had the Arabian farm in the 1980s, outside of Lone Jack, again, we would hear them and see them from time to time, they were not afraid to come out in the daylight. We watched the foals carefully and I had a big (16.2 hand) Index Quarter horse gelding that was kept in the broodmare and foal field as he would chase down any dog or coyote. They coyotes did frequently raid the barn cats. When we did not see one of the barn cats for a couple of days, and had heard the coyotes calling near the barn we knew what had happened. One time we found a litter eviscerated. Just killed, not eaten. We also believed in elimination, but my choice of weapon was .22 rifle with scope.
