My directions to the board are as follows:
1. Decline any and all closed sessions.
2. Find a way to rotate the National, even if it means a decline in income.
3. Communicate with the members as much as you can.
4. When you leave the meetings, leave behind the hostility.
5. Stand up for what you believe, and do not let the other board members
bully you.
6. Never bring charges against a fellow board member or a club member. As a
board member you answer to a higher power.
7. Consider first, what is best for the dogs, second what is best for the
club, and third, what is best for the membership. Always recognize the three
are equally important, and try not to put one over the other.
8. Try to balance what you feel is right with what the general membership
thinks is right, considering number 7 above.
9. Do not be afraid to change your mind if others can demonstrate rational
reasons.
10. Always remember you wanted to be on the board. Remember we elected you,
we appreciate what you do, and we depend on you for number 7 above.

Hello new board! My name is Ed Hill and I am a reluctant member of the
GSDCA! I'd like to give you a little advice based on my 63 years dealing with
human beings from many walks of life. First if you don't have a backbone you
need to get one ASAP ( check Amazon they have everything). Remember it is
okay to disagree with the members that you serve however you MUST be able and
willing to express and articulate your point of view without anger and
animosity and hiding behind closed sessions. You need to be on this list, you
don't need to post, but you need to be here. There are several hundreds of
GSDCA members who express good ideas and opinions about our dogs and our
club, it's a great form of instant communication! ( I remember a time when
the board was advised to stay away from the list, so sad)... and last but not
least you need to return "our" National back to the membership and get it out
of St Louis! I can respect the fact that serving on the BOD is time consuming
, challenging , and often times a thankless job! You chose the
responsibility, the membership believed that you could do the job! Good luck!
I'm rooting for you but I'm not going to hold my breath. Ed Hill
