I haven't done this in a LONG time, but yes, I used to do it if I felt the
judge just didn't KNOW. I would not do this if I felt the win was a set-up;
obviously THAT judge knew and was looking at the wrong end of the lead. In the
early 80s, I used to show solid blacks exclusively--many judges just did not
know how to look at them and/or just didn't like them. When I sent those
judges a copy of the standard, I used to highlight STRONG RICH COLORS
PREFERRED--because (IMHO) I felt color was the reason Obie was placed last. He
was fun to show: in his first 10 shows, he won his puppy class 8 times, went
RWD once and WD once--pretty good for a black (in the 80s) from the 6-9 class!
The other 2 times, he was placed LAST in his puppy class <back then, the puppy
classes were BIG> and I sent ONE of those 2 judges the standard--the other last
placement was political, distancing MY puppy from a (even at that time) famous
handler. But, showing blacks has made me a good loser--there was no rancor
intended when I sent the standard--I honestly wanted the judge to read it and
LEARN. (I know my last statement sounds superior--if you know me, it's NOT.)

I got so upset at one loss, and I have lost plenty, that I wrote to akc about
the judge. This judge went with a dog who had a high rear over my bitch. No
matter how great I think she is, she at least has a proper topline. And to
loose to a high rear was just too much for me.
I never thought to send this judge a copy of the standard. Too late now, it
happened 2 years ago, but I would have done it if I had thought of it.

Like someone mentioned on the List, I also send a picture with a note when
one of my dogs gets an exciting win. Other times (and I mean this with no
disrespect or sour grapes) I send the judge a copy of the breed standard
because, IMHO, he or she didn't have a clue.
