And this brings up a question about whether or not our printer/mailer is
doing a good job for us.
I know using People as an example is comparing one of the giants in the
magazine publishing industry, however, when it comes to mail service there
should
not be any differences.
Example 1
Peter Jennings death was announced Monday morning Aug. 8. Dana Reeves battle
with lung cancer was announced Tues. Aug. 9. On Fri. Aug. 12, my People
magazine was delivered with Jennings photo on the cover and coverage of both
events.
Example 2
Madonna's riding accident and subsequent broken bones were announced on
Monday Aug. 15. People magazine was delivered on Friday Aug. 19 with a full
page
story on same.
I realize the editorial staff for People is much larger than the Review, but
the fact that the printer and US mail was able to get the magazines into my
mailbox the same WEEK these events occurred makes me wonder why there is such a
lag time between the printing and our receipt of the Review. One assumes all
copies of the Review are printed in one run and then placed in plastic
envelope, given address labels and mailed at the same time. Why then would it
take
as much as 3 weeks or more for different parts of the country to receive the
magazine.
Not taking any shots at Gail and the work she does, but maybe we need another
printer/mailer?
