You are so right. My approach,especially to the young ones, is to walk up
and greet the handler and say. "How are you and your dog to-day" as I reach
down and pet the animal. If I have an animal that is balking I walk away,
have the handler set the dog up for exanunation. If the dog seems secure in
that setting I try them again on the loose lead temperament test. If they
pass I probably will not give them the class but I will not excuse them.
Eyes and body moves tell you so much. It is what the dog does or does not
do on the day of judging that tells the tale. I NEVER PUSH an animal with
questionable temperament. This only stresses the animal further and also
embarasses the handler and/or owner. There is nothing gained by this type
judging. If you understand the standard there is no need to PUSH
animals--they are either sound or they are not. Sandi Card
