The ones I have personally known were not lacking in brains by any means.
Then again, there are GSDs lacking in brains... I don't generalize a whole
breed by a few examples.
The Standard for the King calls for males to be a minimum of 120 pounds.
That is hardly thinner.
Yes they did start with GSD in the background. Hence the appearance. There
was some livestock guardian breed (possibly pyr) added for size. I do
believe they show at ARBA shows.

Oh, come on, give an answer.....It is a really bad Shepherd that someone
decided was good for something else. They are taller, thinner, coated to
the max, and for reasons I cannot fathom, they seem to have left some of the
brains behind somewhere. They are GSD's if you follow the bloodlines, and I
don't recall there being any other breeds involved, but I could be wrong,
and it would not be the first time in my life or on this list. And I stand
by everything I have written here!
