Yep, "trust" the Breeder! The size of your runs is right for our GSDs. I
had seen so many 4' wide ones but due to our
long body & tail, it is better to add the other foot so tails don't hit the
sides. Broom coat is right so they won't slip but
the idea of urine "seeping" into it and causing problems is incorrect.
Especially if you use a soapy bleach combo for
daily cleaning they'll be free of many germs etc. I always had extra runs
and rotated kids to allow a "resting time" for
each. Of course I did a lot of boarding and rescues and had 20 runs of the
same configuration as yours, except one
that was 15 X 15 for my whelping activities and that was great. They were
7' high with the fencing covering the top
as well. They came out of a bldg. with 5' X 5' inside the bldg. with a gate
in there as well as one on the outside and
I have had people ask me many questions and a lot of folks copied my ideas
since they did give the dogs a good &
safe place to be. Oh, I miss it all so very much but know I'd not be able
to do much in my old old yucko condition.

We just had 3 - 20 X 5 kennel runs poured. The concrete was finished with a
broom coat. (it is slightly rough)
The man who did the concrete said it should be sealed because Cement is very
porous and the urine will seep
into the cement.
I have talked to a breeder that I trust and she said not to because it will
make it slippery when it is wet.
What do the rest of you think.
