Wow Kathy you hit it to home run with this thought. Like Ken and Kathy I'm a
West Coaster (CA to be exact) and I didn't go to the Nationals last year. I am
going this year to Colo. and I really want to go to Philly for the centinneal
next year BUT after that, I just don't know. I have to work too and states on
this side of the USA aren't small so it's a long drive. Four years is a long
time with not going to the Nationals. And for me I really look forward to them.
Just my thought.

Hi Guys,
I have sat quietly,(stop laughing) reading all of this.
I know the club is in financial straits with the World Trials. That is
fact.
I know that we have to save money.
But it seems very punitive to the western US, to make us bear the burden of
1800 miles plus, for the next FOUR years. Some may say you can do it in a
day or
day and some change.
We cannot. Most, will not.
Speaking only for ourselves, we bring multiple dogs,
and a young boy to the Nationals. For the sake of safety and health of all
we only drive
about 8 hours a day, give or take. That leaves us with a 3-4 day long trip
ONE WAY.
We are not wealthy, Ken works his a** off , (b/c I have to take care of
Kaitlyn) and vacation time is precious.
Money is a tough subject for the majority of our membership right now,
whether working or retired.
Add several nights hotel, on top of the cost of gas, plus another week
just in travel..it = no go.
At this rate Hunter will be a Freshman in HIGH SCHOOL before he is with one
of our dogs at a National.
He is also very disappointed as the reality of not going to the biggest
show of the year , for many years,
is a very likely possibility. Doesn't give him and other Jrs in the
Western US much motivation to stick with
it now does it? Why so he MAYBE can show at a National in 5, 6 years?
Breeders/owners will be pretty much out of luck in the West.
For example We have a very promising young bitch that will be almost six
next time she sees a National, after Ft. Collins,
nevermind some of our other older dogs. Puppies born even next year will
be at least 4 or 5 before they ever get to a National.
We are not alone. We are but a small family, but a very real
representation of what is facing Western exhibitors.
Perhaps it is the fault of the West for not offering up more from this 1/3
of the country to run for the Board? We have
no voice. We are mute, as far as a representation of the region goes.
Perhaps the issue is ours? I don't know.
I hope to see you all in Colorado, because it looks like it will be many
years before we see many of you at a National again.
That is not whining, not complaining , but the truth.
I imagine a lot of people in the Western US have similar concerns.
Surely there were alternatives to saving money than putting the sole burden
on the entirety of the western membership for the next
three years after Philly. I am at a loss , I really am, and very , sad,
and very disappointed.
