I don't normally mention who donates to the Juniors, but I went to the
bank yesterday to close off last year's winner and to start the next year.
Linda Bankhead's contribution will begin 2017.
I have had a number of suggestions for changes:
Some want to divide the money between the class winners. Some want me to
announce how much is in the award before the National so the kids know what
they are competing for. Some want me to send "thank you notes" to each
contribution, (I probably should do that), but I haven't.
It has been suggested I cut off the funds at a point, and hold the extra
for the next year.
It has been urged that I form a committee to deal with the costs and work
to arrange this each year.
Some have suggested I change it from a bank account to transfer at age 18,
to a college scholarship fund.
These are all great ideas, and I do consider them.
This year I am talking to someone new to the sport, (I hope to meet him at
the National), who is considering a college scholarship, much more than my
little Youth Recognition award.
I do not want the personal recognition, and for that reason I don't
announce the award, but ask someone who is deeply committed to the Juniors to
award it at the dinner.
I have found that without a committee, and just doing it on my own,
covering the costs myself, works better for me.
I do want to thank everyone who contributed this year. I hope knowing you
did so is some personal reward and enough, and maybe I will find some way
to send thank you notes next year.
For those who read my Blog, let me tell you, I just learned last week that
I have to transfer the Pay Pal money to my bank account. No one told me,
so it sat there all year. That is my first personal admission of
ignorance.
I just got the medals and ribbons for this year, and gold pins for the
Juniors to wear during the National to show they are entered in Junior
competition. Be sure to come by the announcer's table, or stop me, and get
your
pin.
Contrary to what Ed has told everyone, I can still learn something new.
And, unless something changes in the next four days, I will be at the
National and Blog as best I can.
Of course, that depends on if they give me a seat at the announcer's
table, ask that I help announce, and it doesn't rain. (Not much chance of the
rain in California). Whoever called it the Golden State got it right, but
it is leaning towards gold-brown now.
