In the Corgis, this difference in growth rate in the radius and ulna, is due
to a partial early fusion of the growth plate. and a lateral deviation will
occur. This is seen in certain families.
TRhe Hyper Osteo usually is indicated by a foreward bowing of the radius abd
ulna. Like the dogs are standing on their tippy toes. This can be picked up at
8 weeks. You will see the pups legs trembling and the pastern will be very
verticlal. The Ca. to Ph ratio will be out of balance. The Phosphorus will be
greater than the Ca level..To correct this in young pups the should have 3 or 4
Malox tablets with each meal. This ties up the Phos. in the stomach and it is
passed in the stool. The protein content should be greatly rediced to 18 to 20
%...NO PUPPY FOOD...I have also put oatmeal in the diet. About 50% oatmeal.
GreatDanes are very prone to this condition. At the Great Dane Club website
there should be articles by Linda Arndt...who has made a lifelong study of Dane
nutrition.
