I don't think breeders should be Independent...they should breed to the
Standard as much as possible.Â
Where I believe that we all should be breeding for the correct GSD, I have a
hard time feeling that a breeding program should not use a GSD that IS
producing as close to the Correct GSD Standard as possible. YES, Too much of
that same dog can be digging a hole, but if that dog is producing the correct
dogs, why not use him?  Bring the Best of the Best to the Best of the
Best... Hummmm...much better chance of getting some darn good ones. Take your
offspring then out, get your lines improvement in the places you need, and in
the next generations you can even go back to your Top producer in the lines-
line breeding. THAT is how we've produced some of the best dogs in the
country over the history of the GSD.Â
The best breeding programs are those that know what their lines can produce and
need. Over correcting will not work. Bringing a dog with a great shoulder
to a female with a great shoulder, you have much better chance of producing
great shoulder. You should know, tho, that if that dog has a very weak point
ie. bad feet, bad back, poor pigment, etc. these things can and will surface
eventulally. I will say, as in the words of the Great producing Late Joan
Ford,
"Correct Great Shoulder is the harding thing to produce, and the easiest to
lose".

his is true, the majority of breedings anymore have the same sire or are
lose related to that sire. Someday there is going to be nowhere to go in our
reeding program :-(
