When I read Von Stephanitz's book it said he went to a dog show and  was 
not satisfied with what he saw, so he bought some dogs to start his "new"  
breed.  I will have to find that old issue and see what it said.
 
I am not sure what breed Horand was. It certainly wasn't a Schuferhund,  
since they didn't exist at that time.
