I have a "Lamar" memory, one I will never forget. People who know me KNOW that I don't double handle--Henry and Jane knew that and Donna and Leslie know that. Evidently Lamar didn't know that: back in the 80's my best friend Ellen and I had Lamar show two of our solid blacks at the WNY specialties. The whole weekend was weird. The first day, Friday, at the end of each class, the JUDGE took a picture of the winners (can't remember who he was, but he was a trip!) My young male, Landsend's Obie of Jeenellyn was in American Bred. He looked pretty good, but Lamar wanted me to double him. He had one of his famous fits in the middle of the ring , yelling (and I will never forget this) "What the f**** is wrong with you? This is the gd bigtime!" Of course everyone looked around to see to whom Lamar was spewing his venom. Me! On Sunday at the Syracuse show, it got worse. I should have gone in the ring to take Obie away from him during the clas, but I guess I didn't have the guts. Obie was in first place, looking good. (If any of you remember him, he was an excellent mover.) All of a sudden, Lamar had Obie strung up by the neck--Obie started lifting, scrambling, anything to get away from being choked. He was moved from first to last. Did the judge know what was happening? I really don't know--he had to put up the good movers, which Obie was, AT FIRST. So, oh yeah, I remember Lamar!
