Ken is correct. I do not have any experience with lines from any other
county. I seem to be doing just fine with our little breed here in America.
I am mindfull of the line from Mark Twain. "People would worry less about
what others think of them, if they only realized how seldom they did".
I don't think about the German lines at all. I don't go to the Seiger
shows, and I don't watch them. I seldom even go to the WDA shows here. I also
agree with Ken, that you have to study and go with what you see yourself,
not what you are told.
I do wonder about dog that people say their entries are 1/8th German and
you would never know it. If you never know it, or have bred out what the
German breeding did, why even do it?
I have not found myself in the postion after about fourty years of
breeding, saying, I can't find a good dog in the American lines to breed to.
When
that happens, I guess I will look to outside sources. But, since I believe
the breed continues to improve year after year, with the time I have left,
and the limited breedings we do, I don't think I will need to go outside of
the AKC to find a good stud dog, or brood bitch.
I am not afraid to be ego-centristic, it works for me, and has done so in
my involvement with the GSDs. If it ain't broken, why fix it?
