PeTA, with others, put out a shockumentary that was full of exaggerations and
downright lies about SeaWorld (BlackFish). SeaWorld staff went through the
video, point by point, and uncovered the untruths, etc. BUT if it’s on TV
(over and over) it’s got to be true. This whole thing started with the sad
death of a trainer by Tillikum, an Orca. The SeaWorld ticket gates suffered
badly and their stock dropped badly. They started to recover, but not enough.
They got a new CEO that had NO animal background, but a lot of ‘market”
background. He is interested in bottom line, not the animals.
Evidently this man started negotiations with HSUS (Because of course HSUS is
nicer than PeTA) and over the course of the last year, I guess the financial
aspect was more important than any other. So they caved.
As far as the Orcas being abused.. totally and absolutely false. Trainers
working now and then love to work with the Orcas and all of the SeaWorld
animals. Going ‘back stage’ in Orlando was one of the high points of my NAIA
conference trip.
The fact that HSUS is partnering with SeaWorld makes my stomach turn. They’ll
be offering vegan meals, no doubt. A great coup, HSUS. After Ringling’s
elephants and now SeaWorld? Watch your dogs, folks… next will be no breeding…
Save the dogs in Korea and Turkey, don’t breed them here.
