"I could have been a contender". "I could have been somebody". (Marlon Brando quote)......... just seeing if you're awake.........LOL. Hi everyone: In the last few days we have seen circulating on the List the nominees for judges and also the Board. I have read some of the nominees posts about the reasons they are running and what they have to offer the club. IMO, when I vote for the judges and when I vote for the Officers and the Board, it will be for totally different reasons. When I vote for the judges, it will be because of their past record as a judge. What have they bred and shown? What kind of dogs do I see them putting up? How long they've been in the breed, etc. Do I think this person is qualified enough to be helping shape the future of the breed with his/her selections. We give these persons alot of control when we ask them to choose the best dogs because we all know the amount of stud services and puppies sales that are generated by the top winners at the National. So we must choose wisely when we give this kind of control to the judges we vote for. When I vote for the Board and Officers, I won't be looking to see how many dogs they've finished and owned or bred. I will be looking at their qualifications and what they have to offer to run a club as large as the GSDC of America. Certainly no small shoes to fill. I want people who have good common sense, knows something about the business of running an organization as large as this. Has he/she been past board members or officers of other clubs? Have they helped put on shows, futurities, etc? But the most important thing for me to cast my vote will be their COMMUNICATION skills. How do they get along with the membership? Is this someone I want representing our club? Is this someone I can bring my concerns to and know they are going to hear me and do everything they can to have the Parent Club hear them when they bring up a suggestion? I want someone who I and others respect. I want someone I can trust to get the job done. People skills are important in running our club...............and no, I'm not just talking about the most popular person, (one who everyone likes). I'm talking about does this person hear us, and wants to help the membership thrive. So don't show me how many champions you've bred (although extremely well deserved and admired), but tell me what your agenda is, what you hope to achieve in the club, and why I should vote for you. I want to see these people who are "contenders" become the "somebody" that we need to help run our club.
