I just wanted to thank everyone who participated in this little fun
National trivia test I put to the List the other day. It was great and
funny hearing all of your replies. A lot of people answered over the
List and some in private. I think things like this is educational and
we can all learn a little about the history of the breed this way. I
know I learned some things. I wasn't there when it happened, but I
don't know that I like the idea of putting a Best puppy over specials
for GVX. I can't believe that a mature special dog couldn't beat a
puppy. It's kind of insulting IMO for a puppy to beat a special at the
National. At a regional Specialty show if that puppy is superior, even
then it's pushing it, but you mean to tell me out of all the specials
that are entered, not one of them can beat the puppy at a National? I'm
not particularly fond of the idea, although you would certainly feel
flattered, but the GV or GVX is supposed to be the best representative
of the breed and I don't think a puppy is fully developed to carry that
title yet. Only my opinion, but it didn't say too much for our finished
champion bitches that year and I'm sure it didn't make the owner of the
#2 Select bitch too happy. I don't think it's fair honoring a puppy
with the most prestigious award at the National. Give him Best Puppy
yes, but GV or GVX, I think that's a bit much. It's telling the other
breeders, your champion bitches wasn't good enough to beat a puppy.
