I love to hug my dogs. Most of them never minded. My boy Koda just puts up
with my hugs. But my girl, Stunner loves to be touched, hugged & loved. I
just certified Koda with "Therapy Pets United" out of MI. Our first visit
was at our library with kid's reading to him. The library is supposed to
give instructions to the parents with those children in how to approach
dogs. Well, evidently my visit first with a young mother, 6 year old girl &
8 year old boy didn't go that well. First of all the boy let me know right
away that he liked Trains more than dogs so he wasn't interested in Koda.
But the little girl was dog crazy! Before I could even say anything she ran
straight to Koda wrapping her arms tightly around his neck & didn't let go.
At the moment I didn't want to react excitingly over the situation possibly
setting off my dog. Still hanging on to Koda he just starts walking away
dragging the girl & the mother says nothing. That's when I gently corrected
the situation. The mother apologized. She admitted she knew nothing about
dogs but wanted to learn. So the whole meeting was teaching her. And she
graciously thanked me a number of times. When I left the library that
afternoon I was exhausted.;o) I hope our next visit is more relaxing. So
does Koda. Kathy Partch www.JoKaySedona.com
