Oh God I'm sorry. I'm also sorry that your "friend" shared the bad news
with you. Sometimes being a "good" friend means knowing when to keep your
mouth shut and not cause pain. What good did it do to tell you? The poor
dog was already dead and now you will have nightmares.....

I have always been a reader and I have often read of people crying angry
tears and could never identify with THAT: I can NOW. I received a phone
call this morning from a good friend telling me that she read on Facebook
that Mac, a dog of my breeding (in NY) had bloated and the owner did NOTHING.
She did not take the dog to the vet, just let him writhe in pain till he
passed. Flashback to 8 years ago, when Jeddie had a CH sired litter. Nice
pups, although one was a monorchid. No problem, when it came time, I
priced Mac at $350, on a neuter-contract. I sold him to the daughter of a
shepherd person, a woman who had a GSD Kennel back in the day. I let this
woman make payments, had to chase her around for the $$. (Red flag #1.)
About
a year later, she called to tell me there had been an "oops" breeding.
(Red flag #2.) Verbally I let her have it. Another year passed and I got a
terrible call from my handler: Jeddie had bloated and died in her kennel.
Not his fault: Bloat is hereditary. Immediately I called all the owners
of Jeddie's pups and told them that she bloated, and to be careful with
their pups. It was at this time, that Mac's owner began her verbal diatribe
against me: I breed terrible dogs, dogs that bloat, yada, yada, yada. I
withstood it all, said little. My conscience is clear. I also discovered
that Mac was NEVER neutered; indeed, the owner had bred him again. Why am I
relating all this? I want YOU to be more careful than I was when selling
puppies. I thought I did my homework with this owner, yet obviously did
not dig deeply enough. So, as I sit here typing, feeling the hot angry tears
fall, I finally understand their meaning.
