[ SHOWGSD-L ] Help with mastitis

My bitch has 5 nineteen day old pups. She developed mastitis on Tuesday in one
of the rear glands. There was a hard egg-sized nodule and milk had blood and
pus in it. I started her on amoxicillin.Her temp was 103, but returned to 102.2
on Wed and Thurs. I allowed pups to nurse while I covered the bad teat. By
Friday morning, the gland had become soft again and there did not appear to be
any blood or pus, so I let 2 pups nurse the the one gland for a short period.
Pups seem ok. I crated the bitch and left for 4 hours. Came back and the one
gland was very hard and engorged, though no blood or pus, and her temp was
104.4. My vet, who does virtually no repro work, thinks the pups should nurse
on the good teats. I gave her a liter of fluids sub-Q between last night and
this morning and her temp is still 104.4 I changed her over to Clavamox last
night. Iâve started pups on puppy gruel and they are eating it. Any thoughts
on what I should be doing? Thanks.
