I live in Virginia, and I stop both the heartworm and the flea medications
when I can go outside and not get bitten by mosquitos-usually November. I
don't start them again until March or April, depending on how warm it gets.
For the heartworm, if the carriers are not active, the dogs cannot contract
heartworm. It is much less expensive, plus I don't like to needlessly
medicate.
