I always knew, heard, or read somewhere that the German Shepherd dog should have oval shaped bone. After reviewing the standard this morning, I didn't see any mention of it. Maybe I missed it? Anyway, I would probably find it hard to describe it to someone, but I sure know what it looks like. I guess most people would say it's a dog having large bone. That being said, I don't always see our dogs having oval bone. Now oval bone is not reserved for males alone. My BIM Ch Arbar's Xanadu ROM had beautiful oval bone but yet was feminine. So although I think it looks wonderful on our dogs, not all of them have it. What then is the purpose of oval bone besides that it looks very attractive? Maybe it doesn't have a purpose.
