I remember working in Chicago that day… both my late hubby and myself both! We
told our (respective) employers… “go ahead and fire me, I’m getting outta Dodge
and heading for our country home” hoping that we would be able to beat it out
of the city, get to the grocery store, and home before something went down in
N/E Illinois in true fear it would. I will never forget listening to the radio
from the cab of my concrete truck, not believing it was true at first —
thinking it was some sick joke of the morning radio show I was listening to!
Nobody else believed me when I got out and told everyone at the job site I was
on either. I still remember that moment like it was yesterday.
We (as Americans) found out who our friends were that day!
Oh, if only, we could go back to how life was before 9.11….

15 years ago today the United States of America ( my country) was attacked,
you know the details , but at the time we didn't know who attacked us and we
didn't know when and where the next attack would be coming from! Our
government ( yes I love George Bush) quickly shut down US airspace ( I've
said this on this list before but I need to do it again) . Here's the
problem, about 500 flights were heading for the US at the time, coming over
seas from Asia and Europe, many were past the halfway point and could not be
safely turned around to the point of origin With out the risk of running out
of gas! This is when CANADA stepped up big time! With the coordinated efforts
of our government and the CANADIAN government approximately 238 international
flights heading for airports all over the US were diverted to about 17
different airports in CANADA, including Vancouver International airport.
Canada took a big risk to its security and citizens, these US bound planes
were potential risks, that may have had hostile passengers involved in the
attack on the United States! CANADA didn't blink, they came to our rescue
despite great potential harm to CANADA! It's estimated that CANADA took in
over 30,000 US pound passengers! Think about that! These folks had to be
traumatized, I was and I was at my own home. The CANADIANS took them all in,
they converted schools and churches into shelters and took all these folks
into their care! Many CANADIANS took complete strangers into their home! I
don't know if I could have done that, but many CANADIANS did! When I taught 4
and 6 graders , most of whom were not born or toddlers and infants in
September 2001, I usually spent half the school day telling them about 9/11
and what the CANADIANS did for us! It's hard to keep from breaking down
thinking about it! The US should have a National Holiday thanking and
recognizing CANADA for what they did for us! I love CANADA! My only AKC and
CKC champion was A CANADIAN ( Boss son) my handler and blood brother is a
CANADIAN ( Bill Basu).... All I need now is a CANADIAN wife! Where is
Molly... I will be in CANADA on Wednesday ....Thank you CANADA Ed
