Just saw this on the internet.  For once good publicity for the breed!
If you weren’t already a dog lover, one intuitive, alert and loyal pooch is
about to convert you. Recently, a 63-year-old woman in the French town of
Sorgues went to her garden with a .22-caliber rifle. She intended to commit
suicide. After firing several test shots, she prepared to shoot herself,
putting the gun to her chest. But at the moment she pulled the trigger, her
German shepherd jumped on her, diverting the bullet. The woman's husband
later discovered her with a non-life-threatening chest wound. A police
officer said the heroic — and clairvoyant — canine "probably sensed things
and knocked into her to save her."
